Logominy: An App for Speech Therapy
Logominy is an Android app developed by Nowa Era Sp. z o.o. that focuses on labiography, a method used in phonetics to illustrate the position of the lips when producing sounds. The app is designed to help children understand labiograms, which are the clearest way to represent sounds in phonetics. It only shows labiograms with a clear and characteristic lip position.
The app includes additional markings on the photos to indicate the nature of the sound. For example, a dot indicates a short and precise sound, while a line indicates a longer sound that requires the speaker to maintain the position of the organs of speech. The app also includes exercises to help children develop their articulation awareness, and a logopedist can use the app creatively to propose activities such as guessing the sound presented in a photo.
In addition, the app includes scenarios for logopedic therapy that can be saved in PDF format. Anna Walencik-Topiłko, a doctor of humanities in linguistics and a long-time lecturer in logopedic therapy and diagnosis, is the author of the scenarios and the methodological consultant for the app. With Logominy, logopedic therapy can be more engaging and interactive for children.
